A naming ceremony is a beautiful, traditional rite that can be interpreted in different ways to welcome a child into the world and to a family, and to celebrate the naming of your child.

I enjoy working with couples and families to make the process of creating a naming ceremony a collaborative effort and a fun experience, whilst at the same time always keeping the significance and detail of the event in focus. Authenticity is at the heart of how I like to work. I am an experienced and safe pair of hands with a creative approach to ceremony-making. Parents wishing to arrange a naming ceremony can come from any cultural background, do not have to be married and may have any one of a particular spiritual or religious belief or none. The event can be as formal or informal as you want; and as an example, I love recreating old rituals, weaving in elements from traditional, religious and cultural influences that you might wish to include when creating a service for such an important occasion. Most of all, I want to make you feel secure in the knowledge that this important part of your special day is in my safe keeping.

If you are considering ‘sponsors’ instead of godparents, it would be lovely to say a few words at the ceremony as to why you have chosen them and what role you hope they will play in your child’s life. It’s also nice to explain why you have chosen your child’s name and what it means to you.

A naming ceremony does not have to be restricted to new-born children. Ceremonies such as these may also include older children, teenagers or adults. Sometimes, when the occasion is for individuals in these age ranges we refer to them as “Dedication Ceremonies” with a somewhat altered emphasis and script.
